There could be a number of reasons why a cartridge does not fit in your printer:
1. You Could have the wrong cartridge. Double check to make sure you received the correct toner cartridge.
2. If your new cartridge looks different than the one you took out of the printer, do not be alarmed. Your new toner might look slightly different depending on the manufacturer. Some variations are common.
3. You could have high capacity toner. Most printers accept both, standard and high capacity cartridges. While high yield toner might look completely different than the starter cartridge, in most cases, both sizes are designed to fit in your printer. However, before you purchase high yield version of cartridge, double check to make sure your printer model will accept it. For instance HP P2035 printer will only accept standard yield toner CE505A but its cousin HP P2055 will accept standard yield CE505A and high yield CE505X cartridges even though physically both toners look very different.
4. Remove all packaging. Often times, remanufactured and compatible toner cartridge include different type of packaging materials including orange plastic covers and plastic moldings to protect the cartridge during transport. Make sure to remove all packaging material, seals, covers and paper.
5. Your Cartridge might be a two-piece unit. Some printers are designed for a single unit cartridge while others have 2-piece unit. If you have a Brother printer or Dell printer, chances are, it will have a two piece cartridge which consists of toner and drum. When replacing toner of a two-piece cartridge, press down on the green or blue plastic lever to release the empty toner cartridge. Drum unit (imaging unit) is the bottom piece (plastic tray) that the toner snaps into. You do NOT need to replace the drum unit each time you replace the toner unit. Only replace it when the printer tells you to or when your image quality starts to decline. Drum unit with its toner attached will look completely different (much larger) than a toner on its own.
