Zebra labels are mostly used in direct thermal barcode printers and thermal transfer barcode printers. They are available in many different materials, sizes and adhesive types. In order to determine the right solution for your particular needs, several points need to be addressed.
Printer – different printer types have different media specifications. Inner Core size: Industrial = 3″, Desktop =1″, Mobile = .75″ or 1″. Outer diameter capacity. Material thickness and the roll length creates variance: Industrial = 8″, Desktop = 5″, Mobile = 1.8″ – 2.63″. Width: How narrow can it print? Maximum – how wide is the printhead?
Resistance – what the label is subjected to during its life. Some labels need to be resistance to cleaners, sterilization, oils, gas etc. Also light resistance such as UV and fluorescent light is an important factor. Furthermore, abrasion resistance needs to be considered (contact and rubbing will wear down the image).
Environment – determines the print durability and adhesive type needed. Will the labels be used indoors or outdoors. Outdoor labels need protection against sun, rain, hear etc.
Surface – the type of surface the label needs to adhere to determines the right adhesive. Will the label be applied on curved or flat surface? Is the surface going to be rough or smooth? Some surfaces simply need a more aggressive adhesive than others.
Size – label size needs to fit label format. Width and length need to be determined.
Zebra uses only pre-tested materials and quality processes to ensure consistent results, which reduces the need to reprint labels due to poor readability and scannability. These extra measures ensure that Zebra supplies will work not only in your printers, but also in your applications. Additionally, if you use Zebra original products, all your failed printheads will be replaced at no charge by Zebra direct. That alone can add up to lots of savings!
