If your printer is an HP laser jet MFP M234sdwe, it will not work with compatible (aftermarket) toner cartridges. That’s because HP has recently migrated to a new online software (HP+ Smart) to manage your printing and cartridge supply purchases. Certain printer models require access to the internet and signing up for an online account in order to be able to use the printers. Additionally, these models require HP brand products to be used exclusively for the printers to function.
What does this mean? Due to the HP+ Smart Printing System, any aftermarket compatible or remanufactured toner or inkjet cartridges from non-HP manufacturers will not be recognized by these printers and will not function, requiring consumers to purchase only HP brand products for their printers. HP brand products are more expensive than compatible and remanufactured products, increasing the cost per page printed.
How can you tell if a printer is programed with the HP+ Smart Printing System? At this time, these printer models are designated with a letter “e” at the end of the model number indicating that particular printer requires use of the new printing system. For example; the printer model HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe is a printer that uses this system, while the HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw printer does not and will allow the use of compatible or remanufactured cartridges.
